Collegiate CS enrollments are exploding. Many states are calling for"CS for All" K-12 students. Choices of programming languages and technologies are key strategic decisions for supporting diverse learners and their teachers. What questions underlie this decision? This talk draws on our recent college-level research studies and our experience with Bootstrap—a national-scale outreach program that integrates computing into several existing middle- and high-school courses—to explore how language matters in broad-access computing education.
